HOW LONG DOES PRIORITY MAIL EXPRESS TAKE?
If you are trying to figure out how long Priority Mail Express will take, then you have to become more familiar with the USPS shipping zones. The zones cover a range of zip codes. Depending on which zone your package is being sent from and the zone it is going to, the delivery time frame will be affected. Crossing zones does not affect the cost of shipping Express.
HOW TO CALCULATE THE SHIPPING ZONES
Go to the zip code origin page on the USPS site and you can enter in the zip code, or city and state name for the location of the origin of your package. Your origin zip code needs to match the origin of the order that will be shipped, not the coordinating office zip code. Wherever the package will be picked up from is what needs to be the zip code you use.
Once you search for the origin zip, the map will become segmented with a color coded scheme that can read with the accompanying key code to tell you where your 1, 2 or 3 day delivery options are going to be. It is important to remember that this is for Priority flat rate shipping only, and not the times for Priority Express flat rate shipping. Once you know the zones, you can then look at the Priority Express service chart to determine your time frame.
WHAT IF MY PACKAGE IS TOO BIG?
Only some of the standard flat rate sizes can be used for Priority Express. If your packages do not fit in the approved packaging, you cannot use the Express service. Only packaging made for USPS Express by USPS qualifies for the rates. The following sizes are for Express service only.
- Flat Rate Envelope: 12-1/2″ by 9-1/2″
- Padded Flat Rate Envelope: 12-1/2″ by 9-1/2″
- Legal Flat Rate Envelope: 15″ by 9-1/2″
- Flat Rate Boxes: 11-1/4″ by 8-3/4″ by 6″ Outside; or 14″ by 12″ by 3-1/2″ Outside
If your package is bigger than one of these listed sizes, the Priority Express service is not offered. Your package may be eligible for First Class or Expedited shipping with USPS. These services are priced according to destination, delivery time-frame and weight.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR VOLUME SHIPMENTS?
If you are a business and are trying to figure out how long does Priority Mail Express take for volume shipments, then you need to explore the Commercial and Commercial Plus shipping options with USPS.
USPS uses a system that is priced according to volume of shipment, rather than delivery size or time for businesses. Depending on how many items you are shipping, a shipment carrier unique to your company can also be arranged.
You need to pull your historical shipping reports, and your current fulfillment projections before calling to speak to a commercial account representative. They may be able to help you get Express-like service on high volume shipments. Learn more about how much does Priority Mail cost.
